World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations food aid programme that annually ensures food assistance to approximately 90 million hungry poor around the world. The Nordic Liaison Office, which is based in Copenhagen, raises awareness of WFP activities in the Nordic countries. WFP is currently looking for 3 interns, one from Sweden, Finland and Norway respectively. The internships take place from 9th of February 2009 to 9th of August 2009.
Duties:
- Gather information in the Nordic countries relevant to WFP mandate
- Develop and maintain contacts with relevant media, NGO's, government institutions etc.
- Produce material and update WFP's home pages in the Nordic languages
- Send out newsletters, write press releases, monitor media and undertake translations
- Work on specific campaigns and outreach activities
- To a limited extent assist other UN-organisations located in the UN House in Copenhagen such as UNFPA and UNDP
Qualifications:
- Student in Media & Communication, Political Science or Development Studies
- Swedish, Finnish or Norwegian mother tongue is a precondition
- Good computer knowledge (MS Office, knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and managing websites an asset)
- Experience in public information work
- Knowledge of international relations/development issues
- Good command of written and verbal English (working language is English)
- Important: Applicants must be currently enrolled in university or graduate school and have completed at least two years' undergraduate studies
WFP pays USD 500 per month. The contracts are issued for an initial 3 months with an expected extention of an additional 3 months.
