World Food Programme (WFP) is the food aid agency of the United Nations, annually providing food assistance to more than 100 million people worldwide.
WFP Nordic Office is based in Copenhagen and is responsible for advocacy and outreach activities across the Nordic region, in collaboration with partners, stakeholders and colleagues in the field and Rome headquarters.
Through our internship programme we employ information assistants from Norway, Sweden and Finland respectively, as one way of ensuring perspectives from the main countries under our mandate.
An internship with the WFP Nordic Office provides opportunities for students that are skilled and passionate on joining WFP in advocating against hunger worldwide. Under supervision and in teams, you will function as focal point on WFPs information work in your respective country and in the Nordic region.
Internship from February 1st 2010 to August 6th 2010.
Main duties:
Public Outreach
- Maintain and expand WFP media networks within respective country
- Translate and pitch corporate press-releases through media contacts and beyond
- Manage language website creatively
- Generate and translate web content, also for new social media
- Work on specific campaigns and outreach activities
- Host visits to WFP Nordic office, including presentations
Partnership relations
- Maintain relations and facilitate partnerships with NGOs and corporate partners
- Place ads and public service announcements
- Support donor relations to the respective country during official visits
- Participate in joint UN activities in Copenhagen when relevant
Media monitoring
- Monitor national media on issues related to WFPs work and mandate
- Follow up on NGO activities relevant to WFPs mandate
- Report on relevant developments in government policies in respective country
Required qualifications:
- Enrolment continuing throughout the internship at university level or graduate school is a precondition. It is desired that applicants have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and are majoring in Communication Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Development Studies or other relevant field.
- Verbal and written fluency in Swedish, Finnish or Norwegian and a good command of written and spoken English, which is the working language in office.
- Good command of the MS Office Package.
Added advantages:

- Experience from public information work
- Work experience from an NGO, within or relevant to the humanitarian field
- Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and website management tools
WFP pays a monthly remuneration (equivalent to U$ 500) as a contribution to the costs of living in Copenhagen.
